THE next wave of arrests in the massive flood control scandal will target high-ranking personalities — including senators, congressmen, and top-level suspects — within the next five weeks, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced.

The first batch of suspects — primarily officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-MIMAROPA region — are already in custody, the agency confirmed.

Those still at large are being tracked — some reportedly abroad — with strict orders to surrender.

In a report by Philstar, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized there will be no preferential treatment for anyone, regardless of social status.

The suspects will be held under standard detention conditions at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), with access to routine prisoner services — rejecting any notion of “VIP-treatment.”

Authorities also issued a stern warning to individuals who might consider helping fugitives evade capture. Philippine National Police (PNP) officials made it clear that anyone found harboring or assisting accused persons will themselves face criminal liability.(Victoria Diana, USJ-R Comm Intern)
