VALENTINE'S Day in Cebu is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy, with chances of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, according to the state weather bureau.

In its latest forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas Regional Services Division said the province will experience partly cloudy skies at times, turning cloudy with rain showers or thunderstorms on Saturday, Feb. 14, due to the prevailing easterlies.

Temperatures in Cebu are forecast to range from 25 to 31 degrees Celsius on Valentine’s Day.

Winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

Similar weather conditions are expected to persist in the coming days.

On Feb.15, Cebu will continue to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible rain showers or thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 29 degrees Celsius.

From February 16 to 17, temperatures are projected at 25 to 31 degrees Celsius, with light to moderate northeast winds and slight to moderate sea conditions.

Pagasa said the easterlies, warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, will generally bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the Visayas, Palawan, including the Kalayaan Islands, and Occidental Mindoro.

No gale warning has been raised over any of the country’s seaboards, and the weather bureau does not expect any low-pressure area to enter the Philippine area of responsibility within the next two to three days.

Nationally, Pagasa reported that three weather systems are affecting parts of the country on Valentine’s Day: the northeast monsoon over Northern Luzon, a shear line over the eastern portion of Central and Southern Luzon, and the easterlies over the southern section.

However, for Cebu and the rest of the Visayas, the easterlies remain the dominant weather system, bringing generally fair weather conditions with brief, localized rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening.

Residents planning outdoor activities for Valentine’s Day are advised to monitor updates from Pagasa, especially for possible thunderstorms that may cause sudden downpours.(TGP)
