BARANGAY GINEBRA continued to be a puzzle that NorthPort simply couldn’t solve as the Kings dominated the Batang Pier anew, 127-100, to build a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven semifinal series in the 49th PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday night, March 2, at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Kings have turned the series into a one-sided affair, winning the first three games by double digits. They won Game 1, 115-93, and also handled the Batang Pier with ease in Game 2, 119-106.
Ginebra will shoot for the first Finals berth when the two squads collide for Game 4 on Wednesday, March 5.
Ginebra tore the game apart right in the first half, and import Justin Brownlee was responsible for it. The naturalized Filipino player scored 17 of his 22 points in the first two quarters of play, allowing the Kings to build a huge 64-40 lead at the break.
Ginebra further broke the game wide open by ending the third frame with a 99-68 lead.
Jamie Malonzo top scored for Ginebra with 25 points. Japeth Aguilar added 17, Scottie Thompson 15 and Troy Rosario and RJ Abarrientos tossed in 10 each.
Kadeem Jack led the hapless Batang Pier with 32 points.
