Gilas Women succumb to another blowout loss in World Cup Qualifiers
ANOTHER game, another blowout loss.
Gilas Pilipinas Women lost badly to Germany, 80-113, for a second straight blowout defeat in the 2026 Fiba Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at Astroballe in France on Friday dawn (Philippine time), March 13.
The 33-point beating came a day after Gilas was thoroughly beaten by host France, 66-115.
Just like in their match versus France, Gilas fell into a deep hole early and failed to recover.
Germany was quick to impose its will on the Filipina dribblers, racing to a 35-25 before ending the first half with a 68-48 lead.
Gilas failed to make a serious run in the final half as the Germans handily scored their second straight win in the tournament.
Emily Bessoir led Germany with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Frieda Buhner and Britta Daub added 19 and 16 points, respectively, in the win.
Sumayah Sugapong and Afril Bernardino topped Gilas with 21 and 13 points, respectively.
The Nationals will try to finally make it to the win column when they battle Nigeria on Saturday, March 14.
