Garin leaves fate to Marcos amid resignation calls
ENERGY Secretary Sharon Garin maintained that her tenure in office depends entirely on the President's discretion.
“I work at the pleasure of the President,” said Garin in response to calls for her resignation amid the current power woes besetting the Visayas.
Garin is a former party-list lawmaker whom President Marcos appointed to lead the Department of Energy (DOE) in July 2025.
“We will follow whatever his direction is,” added Garin in a Philstar report.
Calls for Garin’s resignation have mounted ever since the Middle East war broke out, sending petroleum and electricity prices skyrocketing.
“I do appreciate the comments because that means that the people are really concerned about the energy situation,” Garin said.
Last March, transport leaders like Manibela chairman Mar Valbuena called for Garin’s resignation and accused her of protecting the interests of oil companies.
Those resignation calls resurfaced due to the worsening situation in the Visayas power grid, with daily red and yellow alerts affecting economic activities in the region.(MyTVCebu)
