A FIRE broke out on Wednesday night, October 30, in a large shopping mall located in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.
Fire damage was pegged at P1,280,000.
The incident began in Cinema 8 of SM City Cebu around 10:20 p.m., with Cebu City Fire Station (CCFS) responding quickly after the alarm was raised.
The fire was placed under control at 10:50 p.m. and fully extinguished by 11:10 p.m., limiting the damage to a 16-square-meter area within Cinema 8.
There were 30 individuals present at the time of the fire, and they were safely evacuated without any reported injuries.
The affected area of the cinema was partially burned, while the rest of the establishment remained intact.
The mall is managed by Van Aberia, who worked with emergency personnel during the incident. SM Prime Holdings Inc., the owner of SM City Cebu, has yet to provide further details, as an investigation led by Fire Officer 1 Pedie A. Canillas is ongoing to determine the fire’s cause.
Meanwhile, Senior Fire Officer 2 Wendell Villanueva, information officer of CCFS, has advised the public to ensure that fire safety measures are implemented, particularly during the Kalag-kalag celebration.
He said that since most people are in cemeteries to honor their departed loved ones, all electrical wiring should be checked, and electronic gadgets and appliances should be unplugged.(MyTVCebu)
