ANOTHER Filipino Paralympian bowed out of medal contention in the 2024 Paris Paralympics in Paris, France.

Wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan finished last in the heats of the men’s 100-meter T52 early Friday morning, September 6, as he became the fourth Filipino bet to bow out of competition.

Mangliwan timed 19.44 in the heats. He ranked sixth in Heat 1 and ended up 19th overall or 3.23 seconds behind the fastest racer, Belgium’s Maxime Carabin.

Mangliwan, thus, fell short in his two events as he previously finished eighth in the men’s 400m T52.

Mangliwan joined swimmer Ernie Gawilan, archer Agustina Bantiloc and taekwondo jin Allain Ganapin in the sidelines as all four Paralympians failed to secure podium finishes in their respective events.

With the four athletes already out of contention, the Philippine’s hopes of getting a medal in the global event now rely on just two bets— javelin thrower Cendy Asusano and swimmer Angel Otom.(CCM)
