Eala to end busy 2025 with Macau competition
RISING Filipina tennis star Filipina Alex Eala will end her hectic 2025 with another competition abroad.
The 20-year-old Eala has been named as one of the top-tier participants who will be seeing action in the 2025 Macau Tennis Masters.
The tournament, which is set on Dec. 27 to 28, will also have Mirra Andreeva of Russia, along with retired former Grand Slam champions Li Na of China and Spain’s Conchita Martinez.
“Game on. The 2025 MGM Macau Tennis Masters is officially in play,” the tournament wrote on a social media post. “This year, we’re bringing the energy of Play. Celebrate. Repeat. — and shine the spotlight on Women’s Power.”
Czech Jakub Menšík, Chinese Shang Juncheng, and English Jack Draper will see action in the tournament.
Before plunging into action in Macau, Eala will first don the national colors as she will join the Philippine Team in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand slated Dec. 9 to 20.
Eala is looking to make it all the way after winning three bronze medals in the 2021 Vietnam edition of the biennial meet.
Eala is currently ranked No. 50, a career-best, in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings. She is the first Filipino to make it to the Top 50.
The hectic run this year has been historic for Eala as she copped her first-ever WTA title after ruling the Guadalajara 125 Open in Mexico last September.(CCM)
