AFTER a gruelling stretch abroad, Alex Eala has flown back home all pumped up to don the national colors.
The 20-year-old Eala has expressed her desire to suit up for the Philippine Team in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games slated from Dec. 9-20 in Thailand.
“SEA Games is definitely in my plans,” Eala said after her stint in the Hong Kong Open–her last WTA Tour tournament of the year.
Eala’s campaign in the Hong Kong Open ended at Round of 16–enough to hike her points to 1,143.
The Filipina tennis sensation got a much-needed morale boost heading to SEA Games as she moved up to a career-high No. 50 in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings.
Eala scored a lot of firsts this season in what has been a historic run for the youthful athlete.
Eala also became the first Filipino to win a WTA title after she ruled the Guadalajara Open in Mexico last September. Also this year, the Filipina had her maiden appearance in the US Open main draw while also scoring a Final Four finish in the Miami Open that saw her defeat former Slam champions Iga Swiatek, Jelena Ostapenko and Madison Keys.
Upon arriving home on Thursday, Nov. 6, Eala was quick to visit Taal Volcano in Batangas.
“I always find my way back home,” said Eala in a social media post with a photo of Taal as a backdrop.(CCM)
