DEFENDING champion Duraplus Lite kicked off its title-retention bid on a high note after it clobbered Mortaplug, 93–86, in the Cebu Architects Basketball League (CABC) 3rd Mortabond Cup on Sunday, Jan. 25, at Game Changer in Mandaue City.

Duraplus’ offensive might was in full display in the seven-point win with four players scoring in double figures.

Manuel Niere led the Duraplus onslaught by firing 27 points while also adding five assists, four rebounds, and a steal. Zach Elisha Go added 22 points, Khey Loo chipped in 19 and Miguel Cenabre tossed in 11.

Philip Bryan Alegado led Mortaplug with 29 points.

Also winning on the opening day were Mortaflow and Mortapaint.

Mortaflow dominated Mortashield, 87–60, while Mortapaint trashed Mortaseal Flex, 89-69.

Anthony Bajenting and Genre Soriano produced big numbers for Mortaflow with the former finishing with 23 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, four steals, and a block and the latter collecting 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Jhazriel Jumola was also big for Mortaflow with 21 points.

James Nacario piled up 17 points and 10 boards for the losing Mortashield.

Leading Mortapaint were Joseph Layar and Gerald Lentorio, who scattered 31 and 26 points, respectively. John Therese Buhawe also shone bright in the win with 17 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, and two steals.

Justin Aspacio had 21 points for Mortaseal.(CCM)
