TITLE contender Dumanjug avoided a second straight setback by downing Moalboal, 62-54, in the 1st Calderon Cup Inter-Town 21-Under Basketball Tournament on Sunday, April 19, at the Dumanjug Sports Complex in Dumanjug, Cebu.

After stumbling to its first loss following a shock loss to Ronda, Dumanjug took care of business by imposing its will in the shaded lane where it scored 38 points to Moalboal’s 24.

Renz Nathan Villarojo and TJ Tejedor delivered the goods for Dumanjug, which ended the first round of the eliminations with four wins and a loss–good for first place in Bracket A.

Villarojo tallied 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals, while Tejedor collected 11 points, three rebounds, and two steals.

Jhon Ryan Abines finished with 13 points, six rebounds, five steals, four blocks, and one assist but was the lone bright spot for Moalboal, which suffered its second loss in five games.

In another Bracket A match, Ronda leaned on Joseph Rodriguez to take down listless Alcantara, 67-58.

Rodriguez racked up 24 points, six steals, and three rebounds as Ronda snatched its third win in five outings. Jems Carl Catingan backed Rodriguez with 10 points, three assists, one rebound, and a steal.

Eiam Zyann Gador erupted for a game-high 25 points but his gigantic effort proved not enough to prevent Alcantara from crashing to its fifth loss in as many outings.(CCM)
