A SUSPECTED drug pusher was killed when he and his alleged cohorts shot it out with police in Argao town, southern Cebu early morning on Friday, Sept. 13.

The fatality was identified as Joeraldine Bajenting Gevana, a resident of Barangay Jampang, Argao.

Maj. Janus Giangan, chief of the Argao Police Station, said he and his personnel had gone to Jampang, a mountainous barangay, to serve an arrest warrant against Gevana.

Gevana was wanted for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Giangan narrated that he and some of the police operatives had decided to get out of their service vehicle as they approached the suspect’s house.

Giangan added they already anticipated that they may be ambushed on their way to locating the suspect.

Giangan said that as they drew closer to the suspects location, gunshots rang out.

The police returned fire in a gunfight that lasted for about an hour, Giangan said.

Gevana was killed in the shootout while a policeman was also injured.

Giangan said he believed that was the target of the ambush as the front passenger side of the vehicle bore at least three gunshot holes.

“They knew that I usually sit beside the driver,” Giangan said.

Giangan said Gevana was part one of the gun-for-hire groups that are operating in Argao.(YEP)
