THE Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons sustained their fiery form, preserving their unbeaten start to the season after they blasted the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) Webmasters, 66-50, in the secondary division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament on Sunday, September 29, at the Cebu Coliseum.
There was no cooling down the Dragons as they pocketed another victory after netting two straight wins against the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial College Baby Mustangs and Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens.
Seizing sole possession of the top spot in the secondary division standings, CEC was spearheaded by team captain Lybron James Lamo and Jyle Roa, who each scored 15 points. The two also combined for 14 rebounds, 11 steals, and five assists
The two squads actually figured in a tight duel in the early goings with the Dragons settling for the slimmest of margins after three quarters of play, 47-46. UCLM suddenly caved in, scoring just four points in the final quarter allowing CEC to turn what was a tight contest into a one-sided affair.
In other secondary division matches, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers and the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Greywolves barged into the win column by prevailing over separate opponents.
The Baby Panthers demolished the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial College (CRMC) Baby Mustangs, 69-38, while the Greywolves pulled off a tight 72-69 triumph over the Benedicto College Baby Cheetahs.
Fritz Gonzales keyed USPF’s win by tallying a game-high 20 points, four rebounds, three steals, and an assist.
Angelo Dela Cruz and Jasheed Ybara, on the other hand, teamed up to help give DBTC its first win in two games as they fired 16 and 15 points, respectively.(CCM)
