THE Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH 7) has declared a Code White Alert as the Fiesta Señor and Sinulog Festival celebrations begin.
The health agency announced on Thursday, January 9, that the alert will be in effect across Cebu Province and its highly urbanized cities, including Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu, and Mandaue, from Wednesday, January 8, until January 20, a day after the feast day.
This measure aims to ensure public health and safety during the highly anticipated Sinulog celebration on January 19.
Under this heightened alert, healthcare workers, medical supplies, and facilities are on standby to address potential emergencies during the religious and cultural festivities.
In coordination with local governments and various agencies, the DOH-7 said they have mobilized medical teams and health stations along key Sinulog routes for January 18 and 19.
Additionally, a total of 42 medical stations will be set up along the Sinulog parade routes, supported by 44 Health Emergency Response Teams (HERTs) comprising approximately 240 personnel.
These teams will include representatives from four DOH hospitals in Cebu, the Cebu City Medical Center, 11 private hospitals, and 19 emergency medical service providers and volunteers.
Also, the Regional Health Emergency Operations Center will also be staffed by 25 personnel to oversee operations.
The initiative involves collaboration with the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, Office of Civil Defense, Naval Forces Central, Philippine Red Cross, and private hospitals.
DOH 7 also assured that health stations along the parade routes will provide both basic and advanced medical care, while ambulances will be available to transport patients to hospitals for urgent treatment.
Major healthcare facilities across Cebu have been prepared to handle more complex cases.
The DOH emphasized the importance of attendees prioritizing their well-being during the event.
Those experiencing symptoms such as cough or colds are encouraged to stay home to prevent worsening their condition and spreading illnesses.
To avoid dehydration and heat-related issues, participants are advised to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and limit sun exposure.
DOH-7 Director Jaime Bernadas assured the public of its readiness to respond to medical needs and urged attendees to stay vigilant, care for themselves, and look out for one another during the celebration.
“The celebration of the feast of the Senior Santo Niño is more than just a tradition—it’s a powerful expression of faith for millions of Sugbuanons," he said.(MyTVCebu)
