THE number of fatalities from the collapsed building in Angeles City, Pampanga has climbed to 13 after rescue teams recovered another body from the debris on Monday, June 1.

According to the Unified Command, the 13th victim was retrieved at around 1 p.m. and was immediately turned over to the City Health Office for proper handling, tagging, and identification.

Authorities said responders were also working to recover another body discovered near the location where the latest victim was found.

Earlier that day, search and retrieval teams recovered the 12th victim at around 4:12 a.m. from beneath the rubble in one section of the collapsed structure, a report by Philstar said.

Operations remain ongoing as rescuers continue searching for individuals who are still missing following the incident.

The Angeles City Information Office previously released the identities of three recovered victims, identified as Larry Sueno, 48, and spouses Elsa Angcao, 50, and Joey Angcao, 48.

Meanwhile, other recovered remains are still undergoing Disaster Victim Identification procedures to ensure proper identification before their families are notified.

The Philippine Coast Guard’s K9 unit also played a key role in the operation. Three working dogs—UXO, Travis, and Summit—helped guide rescue teams by detecting possible locations of victims trapped beneath the debris.

On the seventh day of search and rescue efforts, personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard and other responding agencies were able to recover additional bodies from different sections of the collapsed building site.(Shanice Kaye Ocio, CNU Comm Intern)
