‘PAROKYA ni Edgar’ frontman Chito Miranda has come to the defense of his wife, actress and businesswoman Neri Naig, following reports that she was arrested over the weekend in Pasay City.
Naig, who is facing charges under the Securities Regulation Code, was allegedly involved in a case of estafa and violations related to the sale of securities.
The news was first reported by showbiz insider Ogie Diaz.
In a heartfelt social media post on November 27, Miranda expressed his frustration and concern over his wife’s arrest.
He emphasized Naig's integrity, stating that she has always acted with honesty and kindness.
"Praying that this will all be sorted out... my poor wife. Neri never fooled anyone, and she never tricked others. She has always helped others to the best of her ability, even when it sometimes wasn’t in her best interest," Miranda wrote.
Miranda further clarified the circumstances surrounding Naig's arrest, explaining that she was simply an endorser for the business involved and had no direct role in the alleged fraudulent activities.
He claimed that Naig’s face had been used to attract investors, who later filed complaints against her.
However, Miranda insisted that his wife was not properly notified of any new complaints against her and was arrested without due process.
"She was not given any subpoena or notice from the prosecutor, and she couldn’t defend herself," he added.
The couple’s supporters have rallied behind Naig, with many expressing disbelief over the turn of events.
Miranda’s post has sparked widespread sympathy, with fans calling for justice and for Naig’s name to be cleared.
Chito remains hopeful that the case against his wifewill be dismissed, as previous similar charges against her have been dropped.
Despite being arrested for syndicated estafa—an offense that carries no bail—Miranda insists Naig did not take money from anyone and that all funds belonged to Chanda Atienza, the owner of Dermacare.
He criticized the justice system, saying, "This is the woman you imprisoned, while the real culprits are still free."
Atienza, linked to illegal investment schemes, has yet to comment.
Dermacare, in a letter shown by Miranda, later apologized for involving Naig in the controversy.(CMM)
