THE Benedicto College (BC) surged to their third straight win by drubbing the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 91-83, in the college division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 25 Basketball Tournament on Thursday night, Oct. 3, at the Cebu Coliseum.
By improving to 3-0 (win-loss), the Cheetahs tightened their hold on the second spot, trailing the defending champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers, who are still undefeated in five games.
The Cheetahs leaned on Den Rick Orgong, who came up with a solid all-around game and finished with 23 points, three assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
Cleo Jawerga Jr. added 15 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block in the win while Kenneth Babalcon and Serge Gabines contributed 11 and 10 markers, respectively.
Keaton Clyde Taburnal tallied 19 points and nine rebounds while Janjan Peteros tossed in 15 points but the Panthers still suffered their third defeat in four outings.
USPF avoided a double whammy as the Baby Panthers tripped the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) in the high school division, 69-61.
It was USPF’s second win in three matches while the Junior Wildcats slid to 1-1.
Luke Brent Dy led the Baby Panthers with 17 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, three blocks, and two assists.
CIT-U was led paced by Randel Jay Mendaros, who collected 18 points, six rebounds, three steals, and a block.(CCM)
