THE Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons bolstered their bid to make it to the Final 4 after they trounced the Benedicto College Baby Cheetahs, 68-37, in the secondary division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) High School Basketball Tournament on Sunday, October 27, at the Cebu Coliseum.
Picking up their sixth win in eight games, the Dragons moved up to solo fourth spot, trailing the University of San Jose-Recoletos (6-1), Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (6-1), and University of Cebu (6-1).
CEC’s victory dragged the University of the Visayas Baby Green Lancers outside the Top 4 with a 5-2 record. Also in the running for a Top 4 slot are the Cebu Institute of Technology-University, which has four wins and three losses.
The loss further pulled the Cheetahs down the standings as they absorbed their seventh loss in eight outings.
CEC’s Louie Jay Estorba led all scorers with a game-high 13 points on top of three rebounds and a steal. Kenneth Robert Fuller Jr. backed Estorba with 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block.
Jacis Abraham Bensi paced the Cheetahs with 12 points, while Kyle Andre Nalisa added 10 points.
In another juniors division match, the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Greywolves scored a thrilling 75-73 triumph over the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Baby Mustangs.
James Kennedy Plano coughed up 18 points, 11 rebounds, h three steals, one assist, and one block as the Greywolves picked up their second win in seven matches.
Carmelson Abangan had his own double-double for DBTC, tallying 13 points and 10 rebounds. Angelo Dela Cruz and Dirk Louis Baguio added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
CRMC absorbed its sixth defeat with only one win to show so far.(CCM)
