THE Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons made it two-in-a-row while the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons started their season victorious after they hacked out separate wins in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) Season 24 basketball tournament on Thursday, September 26, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Dragons thumped the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens, 81-65, to seize the early in the high school division, while UP took out the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 74-64, to break into the win column in the college competition.
Getting a good follow-up of their 96-41 win over the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial College Baby Mustangs, the Dragons drew a game-high 22 points from Joaqui Larrazabal, who shot 8-for-15 from the field.
Larrazabal also had eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Jyle Roa, Lybron James Lamo, and Mark Justine Parilla added 20, 14, and 12 points, respectively.
Chase Mapula led the losing CIT-U with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Kieff Russell Suarez and Randel Jay Mendaros chipped in 14 markers apiece.
UP, on the other hand, was led by Kent Joshua Cabanlit, who collected 18 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks, two steals, and an assist.
Matt Flores was also productive in his UP debut as he tossed in 13 points, 15 rebounds, three steals, and three assists.
Matthew Paras wound up with 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead CIT-U, which came up with an unproductive day with its college and secondary teams both going home empty-handed.(CCM)
