Cebuano pug eyes WBC belt vs veteran Thai foe
A REGIONAL title will be at stake when Cebuano boxer Joperson Trazo sees action for the first time on foreign soil.
The pride of Barangay Biasong, Talisay City, Cebu vowed to go all out against Thananchai Charunphak as they fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia flyweight title on Oct. 30 at the NKL Boxing Gym in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
“Maningkamot ko ug buhaton ang tanan aron makab-ot ang gipangandoy nako nga ma-champion,” the Chao Sy Boxing Stable stalwart said in a press conference on Thursday, Oct. 22.
Trazo holds a 9-2-1 win-loss-draw record. Two of his wins came via knockout.
The 26-year-old Charunphak has already fought 34 times–winning 32 of them and 16 via KO.
Knowing he will be up against a battle tested opponent, Trazo mounted an extensive training camp.
“Nag-training mi og sakto kay nindot kaayo ni nga duwa,” he said.
While Trazo will be fighting in enemy’s territory, his coach, Edcel Mike Tonacao, expressed confidence of a successful outing.
“Nakaduwa na ang usa sa mga fighters namo anang Thai. Kahibalo na mi sa iyang abilidad, mao nang makaingon ko nga duna gyu'y tsansa si Trazo nga modaog aning awaya,” Tonacao said. “Taud-taud na sab ni siya (Trazo) ga-training. Amo gyud ning gipreparahan kay lisud moaway sa lugar sa kontra.”
Charunphak has earned the reputation of being a Filipino slayer. Among his Filipino victims are Jonathan Almacen, Roland Jay Biendima, Jeny Boy Boca, Brandon Alejandro, Arnold Garde, Alec Xandrhe Del Rio, and Reymark Alicaba.
Trazo will try to avoid being added to the Thailander’s list of Filipino victims and for his promoter-manager Lorenzo “Chao” Sy, it would take a tremendous effort to do so.
“It’s all about working hard and being determined to win the title,” Sy said.(CCM)
