Cebu keeps streak going in MPBL, trips Quezon City
THE streaking Cebu Greats rolled to their fourth straight win by taming the Quezon City Black Bulls, 74-61, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2026 Season on Monday night, June 29, at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Mark Meneses led Cebu’s convincing win, winning the Best Player of the Game Honors by collecting 15 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals.
The Greats improved to 12-3 (win-loss) to move up to third place in the South Division, closely trailing General Santos and Batangas, which sport 13-2 and 12-2 slates, respectively.
The Bulls suffered a second straight defeat to drop to 6-8.
The two teams figured in a tight contest early with Cebu settling for a slim 19-17 lead in the first quarter. The Greats got going in the second quarter and posted a 36-26 lead at the half.
The Greats still held on a double-digit cushion entering the fourth period, 59-49, and the best the Bulls could do was to move within seven points late in the game.
Alvin Baetiong added 10 points and eight rebounds for Cebu. Kint Ariar contributed 10 markers while Wowie Escosio added nine points and five rebounds.
Valandre Chauca topped the Bulls with 14 points and six assists. Christian Jake Agoncillo added 13 points, while Kobe Monje tossed in 12.
