FROM the heart of the Visayas to America’s Pacific frontier.
Cebu will soon open a direct air bridge to Guam, a U.S. territory in the western Pacific, with the launch of the first and only non-stop service between the two islands on December 16, 2025.
The new route is expected to boost tourism, business, and cultural exchanges between the Visayas and the Pacific region.
Philippine Airlines (PAL) will operate the Cebu-Guam flights three times a week, expanding international connectivity from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) and strengthening Cebu’s position as a growing hub for regional travel.
Flight PR 120 will depart Cebu every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 9:40 p.m. and arrive in Guam at 3:25 a.m. local time.
The return flight, PR 121, will leave Guam every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 5:15 a.m. and land in Cebu at 6:50 a.m.
MCIA chief executive officer Anthanasios Titonis said the new route underscores Cebu’s role as a growing international gateway.
“It reflects our commitment to growing our network and supporting economic and tourism flows between the Philippines and Guam,” Titonis said.
“This route not only accelerates island-to-island travel but also strengthens the gateway for visitors from the US Pacific territories and Asia," he added.
PAL, MCIA, and Guam’s tourism and aviation sectors jointly launched the partnership to strengthen regional cooperation, expand tourism exchanges, and create new business opportunities between the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia.
Guam Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio welcomed the new air link, emphasizing the shared heritage between Filipinos and Chamorros rooted in religion and history.
He said the service would deepen people-to-people connections across the Pacific.
Tenorio highlighted Guam and Cebu share deep historical and spiritual ties that date back to the Spanish colonial period, when the Marianas Islands were once under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Diocese of Cebu.
In 1668, Spanish missionary Fr. Diego Luis de San Vitores, accompanied by young Visayan catechist Pedro Calungsod from Cebu, established the first Catholic mission in Guam.
Their work introduced Christianity to the island and forged a bond between Cebuanos and Chamorros that has endured for centuries.
For more than two hundred years, Guam remained under the Cebu diocese’s oversight until the Vatican created the Apostolic Prefecture of the Mariana Islands in 1902, formally separating Guam’s church territory from Cebu.
Nearly 30 percent of Guam’s 179,000 residents are Filipinos, making the Philippines one of the island’s most significant cultural and economic partners.
The new service complements PAL’s daily Manila–Guam flights, giving travelers more flexibility and convenience when flying between the Philippines and the US Pacific territory.
Passengers can book their flights through the PAL website (www.philippineairlines.com), the PAL Hotline (+632 8855-8888), the PAL mobile app, or their preferred ticketing offices and travel agents.(MyTVCebu)
