Capitol replaces ‘Pasigarbo’ with scaled-down ‘Pasidungog’

CEBU Province is moving away from a grand festival competition and toward a simpler cultural showcase as the Provincial Government introduces Pasidungog for its 457th Founding Anniversary celebration this August.

The new activity will replace Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, the province-wide festival competition held during the previous administration.

Pasidungog will feature festival performances from participating local government units without the larger production requirements and costs of the former event.

Capitol Executive Assistant James Canoy said the province has finalized the calendar of activities for the month-long celebration.

“Na-final na namo ang calendar of activities for the founding anniversary,” Canoy said.

The Provincial Government allocated P20 million for the celebration, which will include cultural activities, sports events, and community outreach programs.

“Ang budget jud nga gi-allocate based on the budget approved, it's P20 million,” he said.

Pasidungog will be staged on August 31 at the Cebu City Sports Complex, alongside Pasundayag, as part of the closing activities of the anniversary celebration.

Seven local government units have already confirmed their participation in Pasidungog.

These are Borbon, Carmen, Toledo City, Dumanjug, Argao, Naga City, and Carcar City.

The participation of Bantayan Island’s Palawod Festival is still being finalized.

Pasundayag will feature decorated karosa representing different parishes.

The Capitol increased the financial assistance for participants to P100,000 from last year’s P30,000.

Canoy said the increased assistance will add to the P1-million subsidy already allotted for the activity.

The anniversary celebration will begin on August 2 with the first Governors Run.

The formal opening will follow on August 3 through a flag-raising ceremony at the Capitol grounds.

Governor Pamela Baricuatro, Vice Governor Glenn Anthony Soco, members of the Provincial Board, mayors, and congressional representatives from across Cebu are expected to attend.

The Agri-Fair will also open on August 3 and run until August 8.

It will showcase agricultural products and local industries from different parts of the province.

On August 6, the province’s founding anniversary, Capitol employees will attend a thanksgiving Mass.

This will be followed by a raffle and fellowship activities in their respective offices.

The provincial government will also hold medical and surgical missions in different areas of Cebu during the celebration month

The first mission is scheduled in Danao City. The second leg is being considered between Bantayan Island and the Camotes Islands, depending on the recommendation of the Provincial Health Office.

The third mission will be held in Bogo City.

The Capitol will conduct a Caravan of Services every Wednesday of August to bring government services closer to residents.

The Provincial Information Office will also organize the Information Officers Congress on August 12 and 13.

The event will gather information officers from local government units across the province.

The celebration will conclude on August 31 with Baricuatro’s State of the Province Address, where she will present the administration’s accomplishments and priorities.

This year’s anniversary will also feature the first recognition program for retired Capitol employees.(MyTVCebu)
