Calderon Cup adds volleyball tourney
ASPIRING volleyball players in the seventh district of Cebu will get their own opportunity to showcase their skills.
While its basketball tournament is ongoing, the Calderon Cup Development League is also set to hold a girls under-21 volleyball tournament next month.
A grassroots sports development project by Cebu 7th District Rep. Patsy Calderon, the volleyball tournament aims to give players of the seventh district an opportunity to further hone their skills that may pave the way for them to earn athletic scholarships in colleges.
The provinceโs seventh disttrict is composed of Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara, Moalboal, Badian, Alegria, Malabuyoc and Ginatilan.
Calderon Cup Commissioner Ramil Abing, together with Jordan Paca and Blake Diao, held a coordination meeting with the coaches of the seventh district.
During the meeting, it was agreed that teams will be allowed to field 12 players and two liberos. Each player must be a resident of the town she represents.
As a development league, Paca emphasized the no substitution rule for the first two sets with a different set of six players for each set.
The tournament will be played over two weekends with Badian hosting the opening weekend and Moalboal hosting the final three match dates on May 29 to 31. Alcantara will host the May 24 games.
"Let us work together for the success of this tournament and to give the girls an experience they will never forget," said Abing.
Aside from basketball and volleyball, a football competition and a kite festival are also in store, Abing said.(CCM)
