Bossing sting Hotshots to stay unbeaten in PBA Govs’ Cup
THE Blackwater Bossing rolled to their second straight win by edging the Magnolia Hotshots, 89-81, in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Friday night, July 17, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Blackwater followed up its impressive 131-108 win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in what has been a surprising start for the perennial league tail-ender.
But what is even more surprising is Magnolia, which is off to a sluggish start after absorbing another loss to fall to 0-2 (win-loss).
Kentrell Barkley tallied 26 points to lead Blackwater with 12 of his total output coming in the pivotal fourth quarter period. RK Ilagan added 20 points as the Bossing used a crucial 8-0 run in the closing minutes.
With a clean 2-0 record, Blackwater joined the Phoenix Fuel Masters at the No. 1 spot in Group B. Leading Group A are the NLEX Road Warriors and Converge FiberXers, who both have 3-0 slates.
KJ Buffen had 32 points for Magnolia, which couldn’t recover from an 86-96 loss to Phoenix last week.
