Bohol athletes sharpen skills thru Hanas program
BOHOL, an emerging sporting powerhouse, continues to develop its young athletes through a comprehensive sports program.
Aspiring athletes underwent a day of structured training and skills development when another stop of Harnessing New and Advanced Sports Skills (Hanas) prorgam was recently conducted in Dagohoy town.
A total of 130 athletes, composed of 67 girls and 63 boys, learned the basics of athletics, basketball, football, futsal, and softball.
The conduct of the clinic was in line with the provincial government’s effort to strengthen youth and sports development at the community level through the 2026 Abante Grassroots Sports Clinic.
Leading the implementation of the program is the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO).
Through PYDO’s Building Governance for Sports Advancement for Youth (Bugsay) program, trained and certified coaches are tapped to spearheaded clinics.
PYDO chief Metodio Maraguinot Jr. said the province seeks to bridge the gap between grassroots participation and high-performance athletic development through community-based training and mentorship.
By cultivating local talent and expanding opportunities for sports participation, the province continues to promote healthy lifestyles, youth empowerment, sports tourism, and sustainable community development as a UNESCO Global Geopark, said Metodio.
Bohol has been performing well in regional competitions. In this year’s Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet, the province finished second overall after collecting 84 gold medals, 85 silvers, and 75 bronzes.(CCM)
