IS SEN. Imee Marcos still part of the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas?
This question was raised when President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. did not mention his sister when he endorsed the Alyansa senatorial candidates during a campaign rally in Trece Martires, Cavite, on Friday night, March 21.
Similar to previous Alyansa sorties, the president introduced and praised the background and track record of his candidates, except Imee, who did not attend the campaign rally, a report by Manila Bulletin said.
According to reports, Senator Marcos is one of the three Alyansa senatorial bets who were allegedly dismayed by the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte. The other two candidates were Senator Pia Cayetano and Congresswoman Camille Villar.
Villar was not present at the event but her name was mentioned by the president.
The incident in Cavite came after Senator Marcos launched a hearing on the arrest and surrender of former president Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court on March 11.
In a separate Manila Bulletin report, Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas campaign manager, Navotas City lone district Rep. Toby Tiangco, said the party will respect Senator Marcos' decision if she decides that she will no longer join in their campaign rallies.
Tiangco clarified that the senator has not informed the party that she will no longer attend their campaign sorties for the midterm elections.
“She didn't say anything. It was actually better for her to say that, at least we know her stand about Alyansa. But formally she has not informed me but if that’s her official statement then I will take it as is," Tiangco said in the report.
