THE spate of road crashes in Cebu City has prompted authorities to intensify the campaign against drunk-driving.

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), together with the Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas and Philippine Coast Guard Special Operations Task Group, has strengthened the enforcement of traffic laws, especially the Republic Act 10586 or the “Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.”

Lt. Col. Franco Rodulf Oriol, information officer of CCPO, said regular conduct of checkpoints will be conducted to curb the increasing cases of vehicula accidents.

Oriol noted that in recent weeks, several road crashes occured with some resulting in fatalities.

In most cases, the individuals involved came from night bars and drove home under the influence of alcohol, Oriol said.

“Mahimo nanang regular nga programa or activity sa Cebu City Police Office in coordination with Land Transportation Office 7 and Highway Patrol Unit. So, kining na mention nato nga mga agencies magtinabangay nani sa pag check sa mga drivers nga naka inom,” added Oriol.

Last Saturday night, March 28, CCPO, LTO-7 and Highway Patrol Group personnel conducted a checkpoint outside a bar.

During the operation, police seized the driver’s licenses of individuals found to be drunk on their way home.(CDB)
