TWO down, one to go.

The Cebu Architects Basketball Club (CABC) looks to end what has been a busy year with a bang when it stages the 2nd Boysen Cup, which will open on Sunday, October 20, at the Benedicto College Gymnasium in Cebu City.

The CABC has already put up two tournaments this year, starting with the Corporate Cup and followed by the inaugural Mortabond Cup, which just ended last week.

Organizers, led by Paolo Alberto and Oliver Tan, expressed confidence that just like the Corporate Cup and Mortabond Cup, the Boysen Cup will also be able to offer exciting games.

In fact, with its unique format, the Boysen Cup, pitting licensed architects from Cebu, could even be more exciting.

The Boysen Cup will be participated by six teams namely: Knoxout, Titan, Plexibond, Roofgard, Healthy Home, and Konstrukt.

Each of the six teams will have five core players and will complete their 15-man roster via a pool of players who will be made available in a draft. The six teams will take turns choosing their preferred players with a drawing of lots determining the order of the selection.

The draft pool will have at least 90 players.

“The drafting system proved successful in our previous tournaments wherein even the lowest-seeded teams managed to rise to the top. In fact, in one of our previous seasons, a team with a 0-5 record came back to win the championship,” Alberto said in a press conference on Friday, October 18, at Club Filipino in FGU Tower.

Tournament format states each team will play five games in the first round with the top two teams after the initial phase advancing to the semifinals. In the quarterfinal round, third and fourth-ranked teams will have twice-to-beat advantages against the fifth and sixth-seeded teams, respectively.

To give all players ample playing time, a “barangayan system” will be applied in the first half of every game.(MyTVCebu)
