Apolinar scores sensational KO win in GenSan boxing card
CEBU-based boxer Pete Apolinar pulled off a sensational first-round knockout victory over Renan Portes on Thursday, Feb. 6, in General Santos City.
Apolinar of the Cebu City-based ZIP Sanman Boxing Gym didn’t waste time sending Portes to dreamland after connecting on a short right hook in the very first round.
Portes laid on the canvas for a few minutes as ring officials checked on him. Fortunately, Portes was still able to recover from the blow and managed to get back on his feet.
With the impressive win, Apolinar improved to 19W-7L-1D, 12 KOs. It was a solid bounce-back performance from Apolinar after he lost to Japan’s Kenji Fujita via unanimous decision for the WBO Asia Pacific featherweight title last December in Japan.
Portes stumbled to his third straight defeat to fall to 14W-21L, 7KOs.
In the main event, Vince Paras chalked up his own impressive win after knocking out Jaysever Abcede in the second round.
It was Paras’ 25th win in 30 fights. He has four losses and 19 KO wins. Abcede dropped to 22W-16L, 13KOs.(CCM)
