ANS cagebells rule SBP ‘Pambansang Tatluhan’ tilt
Playing in enemy’s territory hardly mattered for the secondary girls basketball team of Abellana National School (ANS) as it reigned supreme in the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Pambansang Tatluhan National Finals on Sunday, August 11, at the SM North Edsa in Manila.
ANS scored some measure of revenge after it nipped the highly touted National University (NU) Nazareth School Lady Bullpups in a tight championship contest, 12-11.
The championship was another feather to ANS’ cap as it was coming off a title run in the Batang Pilipino Basketball League (BPBL) National Finals and a first runner-up campaign in the Palarong Pambansa.
The Darwin Dinoy-coached ANS was denied of a gold medal in the Palaro after it lost to the same NU squad in their championship match.
Eventual Most Valuable Player winner Nadine Labay led ANS’ title-clinching win piling up seven points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Gail Cañada added three points, six rebounds, and an assist, while Zaydhen Rosano chipped in two points, seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
NU was led by KJ Badajos, who tallied seven points, three rebounds, and three steals. Zuzanne Singson added three points.(CCM)
