SPORTS enthusiasts in the seventh district of Cebu are in for another treat.

All is set for the Calderon Cup Volleyball Tournament 2026, which will open on Friday, May 22, at the Badian Municipal Gym in southern Cebu.

The 21-Under tournament marks another major grassroots sports development initiative in the 7th District of Cebu under the leadership and support of Rep. Patricia “Doc Patsy” Calderon through the Alagad Septimo program.

“The tournament aims to strengthen unity, camaraderie, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the youth of the 7th District while providing opportunities for athletic development, exposure, and possible scholarship opportunities for deserving athletes,” organizers, led by lawyer-sportsman Ramil Abing, said in a statement.

Participating municipalities include Alcantara, Alegria, Badian, Dumanjug, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Moalboal, and Ronda.

Calderon and Vice Gov. Glenn Soco will be among the invited guests for the opening ceremony.

Opening games will have Alcantara against Dumanjug at 2 p.m., Ginatilan versus Ronda at 3 p.m., Moalboal against Alegria at 4 p.m., Malabuyoc versus Alcantara at 5 p.m., Ronda against Moalboal at 6 p.m., and Badian versus Dumanjug at 7 p.m.

The opening of the volleyball tournament was finalized a few weeks after the conclusion of the highly successful Calderon Cup Basketball Tournament with Dumanjug winning the inaugural championship crown.

Looking to provide aspiring athletes an avenue to hone their skills, organizers expect strong public support and participation from local officials, sports stakeholders, and volleyball enthusiasts throughout the district.

“The Calderon Cup continues to establish itself as one of the premier youth-oriented sports programs in the 7th District, emphasizing not only athletic excellence but also community solidarity, discipline, and positive youth engagement,” organizers said.(CCM)
