THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) confirmed that actress-businesswoman Neri Naig was transferred to the hospital for a "medical evaluation" on Friday, November 29, just days after her arrest on charges of syndicated estafa and securities violations.

BJMP spokesperson Jail Supt. Jayrex Bustinera stated in a report by Inquirer.net that Naig was moved to the hospital upon the request of her legal team.

He further clarified that her medical evaluation would not extend beyond five days, as per a court order.

Bustinera emphasized that Naig did not have any pre-existing health concerns when she was initially brought to jail, and that the medical evaluation is a routine procedure in BJMP facilities.

Naig, a former contestant on the reality show Star Circle Quest, was apprehended earlier this month in connection with complaints of syndicated estafa and securities violations.

She is currently detained at the Pasay City Jail female dormitory. Syndicated estafa, a non-bailable offense, could mean that Naig may spend the upcoming holidays in detention unless the court grants her provisional liberty.

At the time of her arrest, Naig was listed as the seventh most wanted person in November 2024 by the Southern Police District (SPD).

Her arraignment for the alleged securities violations has been postponed to January 9, following her legal team’s motion to quash the charges.

In the aftermath of her arrest, Naig’s husband, Parokya ni Edgar’s Chito Miranda, defended her, stating that she was merely an endorser for Dermacare-Beyond Skin Care Ventures.

However, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has alleged that Naig played a role in enticing investments for the company without the proper license.

Naig’s legal team has been contacted for further comment, but as of press time, there has been no response.(CMM)
