A HISTORIC run ended in coronation as the Abra Solid North Weavers copped the national crown of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2025 Season.
The Weavers nipped the Quezon Huskers in overtime, 94-85, in Game 3 of their best-of-five championship series on Tuesday night, Dec. 16, at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.
The nail-biting win enabled the Weavers to sweep the series, 3-0, with the title-clinching victory stretching their record winning streak to 36.
The North Division champions Weavers won Game 1, also in overtime, 90-81, and likewise escaped with a close win in Game 2, 62-58.
This seasonโs Most Valuable Player (MVP) winner Dave Ildefonso led the Weavers with 23 points while Encho Serrano contributed 21 markers.
Ildefonso and Serrano teamed up in a crucial 13-2 run in the overtime period that shoved the Weavers to a commanding 92-82 lead with only 23 seconds left. Ildefonso had seven and Serrano had six in the telling attack.
Jason Brickman added 22 points anchored on three triples, five assists, two rebounds, and a steal. He was named the Finals MVP after averaging 17 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists in the title series.
It was a double celebration for Abra coach Yong Garcia as he secured the Coach of the Year accolade.(CCM)
