A FIRE that struck a building in Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City, on Wednesday morning, Dec. 10, tested courage, quick thinking, and love for pets.
While the blaze caused significant property damage, the bravery of one woman captured the hearts of the community.
At around 7:18 a.m., thick black smoke was seen rising from the H & E Industrial Inc. property along BB Cabahug Street.
Firefighters quickly responded, and neighbors gathered as flames consumed one building spanning approximately 1,568 square meters.
By 8:22 a.m., the fire was fully put out, leaving an estimated P2 million in damages. There were no injuries or fatalities recorded.
Amid the chaos, a woman found herself trapped on the upper floors of the building with her two dogs.
Instead of fleeing immediately, she made sure her beloved pets were safe first.
One by one, she carefully threw each dog to safety, refusing to leave them behind.
Just as the fire began closing in on her, rescuers reached the building with ladders.
From the terrace, she climbed down from the upper floors, narrowly escaping just as the flames suddenly blazed harder.
Her heroic act went viral on social media and received praise for her quick thinking and devotion ensured that both her pets and herself were saved from the fire.
The Animal Kingdom Foundation commended her heroic actions, saying, “She chose love over fear.”
“When the fire broke out, she refused to leave her dogs behind — proving that family isn’t just who we live with, but who we fight for,” they added.(MyTVCebu)
