A NIGERIAN recruit by the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons died after collapsing in a team practice on Tuesday, August 19.

Israel Osamudiame Friday was 19. He was supposed to turn 20 next month.

UP’s Office of Athletics and Sports Development (OASD) confirmed Friday’s passing but the cause of death had yet to be determined.

The OASD said the 6-foot-10 big man was rushed to hospital after passing out in a scrimmage but efforts to revive him went futile.

Friday, a native of Abuja, Nigeria, previously played for the Centro Escolar University Scorpions in the Universities and Colleges Athletic League before recently moving to UP in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

Friday was a solid force for the Scorpions that saw him lead the team in almost statistical departments.(CCM)
