Tino death toll in Cebu hits 124

By Kaiser Jan Fuentes

THE death toll in Cebu from Typhoon Tino’s devastation has climbed to 124 as of noon Thursday, Nov. 6.

This is according to the latest reports from the Cebu City and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (CCDRRMO and PDRRMO).

Liloan remains the hardest-hit locality, with 36 recorded deaths—20 identified as residents of the town and 16 still unidentified.

Compostela follows with 28 fatalities, including three bodies retrieved in Liloan. Cebu City recorded 17 deaths, Mandaue City 14, Danao City 9, Balamban 8, and Talisay City 7.

Two deaths were reported in Asturias, while Consolacion, Tabogon, and Bantayan each reported one fatality.

In a social media post, Liloan Mayor Aljew Frasco said that of the 39 bodies recovered, 20 have been confirmed as Liloan residents while 16 remain unidentified.

He noted that the Cotcot River, which forms the boundary between Liloan and Compostela, was among the main waterways that overflowed during the typhoon, carrying floodwaters from the mountain barangays of Cebu City.

Frasco urged those who have missing relatives, particularly from Compostela and the upland barangays of Cebu City upstream of Cotcot, to check the unidentified bodies in Liloan.

Provincial and city disaster offices said search and retrieval operations are still ongoing in heavily flooded and debris-covered areas.

Clearing teams are working to reopen blocked roads and reconnect isolated barangays that remain without power or communication lines.

Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro earlier declared the entire province under a state of calamity, enabling the provincial government to access emergency funds for relief, rehabilitation, and the restoration of essential services.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said several towns remain cut off by floods, landslides, and damaged bridges.

Rescue and clearing teams from the provincial government, the Philippine Army, and volunteer organizations continue to work around the clock to reopen major routes and deliver relief goods to affected communities.(MyTVCebu)
