A LONG drought had been ended as the Terrafirma Dyip turned back the NLEX Road Warriors, 97-91, in the 50th PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday night, Oct. 12, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Dyip rode on the solid outing of rookie John Bravo to end an 11-game slide dating back to the previous conference and give Ronald Tubid his first win as a PBA coach.

Bravo finished with 18 points and eight rebounds as Terrafirma led by as many as 16 points before holding off NLEX’s endgame rally.

Four other Dyip scored in double figures, including Jerrick Ahanmisi, who fired 14 points–none bigger than a layup in the dying seconds that gave his squad a safe four-point cushion.

Paolo Hernandez added 13 points, seven rebounds and six steals, Didat Hanapi put in 13 points while Louie Sangalang chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds in the win.

Mark Nonoy only had six points but helped Terrafirma’s cause by tallying 13 assists and seven boards as the Dyip bounced back after opening their campaign with a blowout 87-107 loss to Blackwater.

Xyrus Torres and JB Bahio scored 14 points to lead NLEX, which failed to get a good follow-up of its stirring 85-84 win over the San Miguel Beermen last week.
