A MEDIA worker of a national media outlet made headlines early Saturday morning, Jan. 24, after allegedly fleeing authorities following a hit-and-run near the stoplight at Cebu Provincial Capitol in Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City.

Police attempted to flag down the vehicle along Osmeña Boulevard, but several video footages shared by netizens show the driver accelerating instead of stopping.

The pursuit stretched from Osmeña Boulevard to Barangay Tisa, during which the vehicle reportedly ran a red light near Cebu City Central Elementary School and counterflowed along N. Bacalso Avenue.

Residents and some motorists in Tisa later helped police stop the vehicle, leading to the correspondent’s arrest.

When confronted by a police officer, he quickly asked for apology.

The media worker is currently detained at Cebu City Police Station 10 in Barangay Labangon.

Based on existing law, he may face multiple offenses, including reckless driving and failure to stop after an accident under Republic Act 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code).

Reports also suggest possible driving under the influence of alcohol, a violation under Republic Act 10586 (Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013).

Fleeing from authorities could also be considered resistance or disobedience under the Revised Penal Code.

Media colleagues visited the police station on Saturday morning, but the family declined to comment.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact charges.(MyTVCebu)
