TWO members of the powerhouse One Cebu party are on a collision course after Daanbantayan town mayor Sun Shimura filed his certificate of candidacy to run for a higher position in the 2025 election.

Shimura processed his candidacy for Fourth District Representative at the office of Commission on Elections (Comelec) Cebu Province on Thursday, October 3.

Shimura will be running against another ally within One Cebu, the ruling provincial party, as his opponent will be incumbent Congresswoman Janice Salimbangon.

Salimbangon was the endorsed candidate for district representative during the One Cebu convention earlier this week.

Having served Cebu Province for nearly 18 years in various roles, including provincial board member and town mayor, Shimura expressed pride in his accomplishments, particularly in elevating Daanbantayan’s status from a third-class to a first-class municipality.

Now, he presents himself as a new choice for the rest of the Fourth District, which includes the northern city of Bogo and the municipalities of Bantayan, Daanbantayan, Madridejos, Medellin, San Remigio, Santa Fe, Tabogon, and Tabuelan.

"Atoang suwayon basin mauyonan sa Kuatro Distrito (We’ll give it a try and see if the Fourth District will supportus)," he said.

While Shimura acknowledged his previous ties with the Salimbangon family, he emphasized that he is now offering himself as a fresh alternative for the district.

Shimura outlined his legislative priorities, focusing on improving the education system, particularly in island municipalities like Bantayan.

He said he will also address the needs of agricultural workers, including fishermen and farmers, who form the backbone of the northern district’s economy.

Meanwhile, he confirmed that his camp has decided to field his stepfather, former Mayor Vicente Loot, as their candidate for Daanbantayan’s next town chief.

Also, Shimura's wife Kerrie will seek reelection for the last term as Fourth District Board member.(MyTVCebu)
