SEVERAL Philippine senators expressed optimism that Donald Trump’s election victory would positively impact bilateral relations between the Philippines and the United States.

Senator Loren Legarda emphasized the importance of continuing the long-standing partnership between the two nations, highlighting shared democratic values and a commitment to peace and security.

She underscored the importance of the Philippines' diplomatic and defense alliances with the U.S., which have long been central to stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

Legarda voiced hope that under the new U.S. administration, cooperation could deepen in key areas such as economic resilience, climate action, and regional security.

Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero also shared a positive outlook, expressing confidence that Trump’s return to the presidency would benefit the Philippines.

Reflecting on the previous period of Trump’s leadership, Escudero noted that relations between the two countries had been relatively stable and expressed hope that this continuity would remain under his second term.

Former Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri, however, framed Trump’s victory as a shift back toward conservative values in the U.S.

He commented that the outcome of the election indicated a resurgence of conservatism, emphasizing the protection of family values and respect for God and country.

Zubiri also noted that the election results, including Trump’s strong performance with the popular vote, reflected the will of what he termed the “silent majority.”

Senator Robinhood "Robin" Padilla added his support for Trump’s victory, praising the peaceful democratic process in the U.S.

He reflected on the power of the people’s vote and the significance of witnessing such a demonstration of democracy, where the voice of the electorate holds significant weight in determining the nation’s future leadership.(CMM)
