BIG-TIME players make big-time plays.

That succinctly described Dennis Schroder’s performance in the championship match of the 2025 EuroBasket as he powered Germany to a thrilling 88-83 win over Turkey early Monday morning (Philippine time), September 15, in Riga Latvia.

Schroder scored the game’s final six points as Germany won another championship two years after it snatched the World Cup crown.

Schroder’s heroics enabled Germany to win its first EuroBasket title since 1993, achieving the feat without tasting a single loss as it went 9-0 in the 24-team field.

Isaac Bonga was Germany’s top scorer with 20 points while Franz Wagner chipped in 18 points.

Schroder was simply superb as he finished with 16 points and 12 assists on his way to winning the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.

Turkey was ahead by a point, 83-82, but Schroder scored on a layup that put Germany in front with 1:15 left.

Schroder then knocked down a jumper that made it a three-point game for Germany and after Turkey’s Alperen Sengun missed a potential game-tying triple, Schroder sank two gift shots that sealed the win.

Sengun paced Turkey with 28 points while Cedi Osman added 23 markers.

In the bronze-medal match, Giannis Antetokounmpo collected 30 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to help Greece beat Finland, 92-89.

Schroder and Antetokounmpo led three other fellow NBA players who made it to the 2025 EuroBasket All-Star Five. Also making it to the elite group were Sengun, Wagner, and Slovenia’s Luka Doncic.(CCM)
