THE Philippines now has more than 112 million population,

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) that as of July 2024, the population in the Philippines has reached 112.73 million.

Through Proclamation No. 973 of July 11, 2025, President Marcos Jr. declared the figure, which was based on the PSA’s 2024 Census of Population and Housing, official.

In a report by Philstar, the figure includes the number of people living from 18 different regions in the country as of July 2024. It also includes the number of Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates and missions overseas.

In the 2020 Census of Population and Housing, the country's population reached over 109.04 million, which means that the number of people rose by 3.69 million in 5 years, but in terms of the population growth, the uptick slowed to 0.8% annually from year 2020 to 2024, from 1.6% for the period of 2015 to 2020.

“The slowdown in the growth rate may be driven by several interrelated factors such as but not limited to declining fertility and birth rate, elevated mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic and subdued migration activity,” the PSA said.

Region IV-A was among the regions that had the highest number of population in 2024 with 16.93 million people. Followed by NCR with 14 million, and Region III with 12.99 million. These regions cover about 39 percent of the population in the Philippines.

Cordillera Administrative Region recorded the lowest population, with 1.81 million people that more or less covers 1.6 percent of the overall population.

Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) registered for being the fastest growing population with an annual PGR of 3.43%. Followed by Central Luzon with a PGR of 1.08%, and CALABARZON with 1.07%.

Bicol region has the lowest PGR of -0.07%.

The PSA is responsible for conducting surveys, national censuses, collecting sectoral records, consolidating selected administrative recording systems and preparing national accounts, and conducting the census from July to September 2024, with July 1, 2024 as the reference date.(Theressa Faye Lacandazo, USC Comm Intern)
