CEBU gubernatorial candidate Pamela Baricuatro has been sued for cyber libel by incumbent Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia.

Baricuatro herself revealed the development in a video posted on her Facebook page, Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro 2025.

In the video that was posted on Thursday afternoon, February 20, Baricuatro narrated that she received a subpoena asking her to report to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Baricuatro described the filing of charges as “a pattern of behavior,” disclosing that it is the third case that was filed against her by the Garcias.

Baricuatro said the governor’s brother, Byron Garcia, has filed cyber libel and unjust vexation charges against her.

Baricuator accused Garcia’s camp of resorting to legal cases against those who challenge them, saying such actions discourage open political discourse.

She maintained that her statements focused on governance and public welfare rather than personal attacks.

She insisted that discussing issues affecting the province is part of her duty as a candidate.

Despite the complaint, Baricuatro remained defiant, referencing Vice President Sara Duterte’s statement on resilience and vowing to continue her campaign without fear.

She emphasized her commitment to a “clean campaign” and reassured her supporters that she would not be deterred.

Baricuatro also said she has faced criticism since announcing her candidacy, recalling that some dismissed her as a “who you?” candidate, suggesting she was an unknown figure in politics.

She noted how perceptions of her have shifted, from being labeled an outsider to now being targeted with legal action.

Baricuatro, a philanthropist and supporter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, is running under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) against Garcia, who is seeking a sixth term.

Baricuatro gained attention for helping organize the “Luksang Bayan 9.21” protest rally, which called for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to step down.

She entered the gubernatorial race following the passing of Rowena Burden, a vocal critic of Garcia who had initially planned to run for the same position.

The governor has yet to address the matter.(MyTVCebu)
