“FAKE news.”
This was what Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla told the Inquirer on Friday, dismissing reports that he had been rushed to the hospital.
The Office of the Ombudsman had already denied the rumors earlier in the day.
Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano also called the reports “fake news” and added, “He had a hearty sinigang this morning for breakfast.”
The false reports circulated widely on social media, claiming that Remulla, who is leading government investigations into individuals linked to the massive infrastructure corruption scandal, was in urgent need of medical care.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, the Ombudsman’s elder brother, confirmed that Jesus Crispin Remulla played golf on Friday morning and was scheduled to have breakfast with him on Saturday.
Many of the posts appeared on Facebook pages supportive of the Duterte family, including former President Rodrigo Duterte.
One account, a “video creator” page called Music Opm Song’s, posted three updates about Remulla’s health.
The first post, published nine hours before 7:30 p.m. Friday, had nearly 60,000 reactions and about 1,700 shares.(MyTVCebu)
