THE New York Knicks stormed back from a 20-point third-quarter deficit in a 108-105 overtime win over the defending champions Boston Celtics in Game of their best-of-seven semifinals in the Eastern Conference on Tuesday (Philippine time), May 6.

New York overhauled a 55-75 deficit midway through the third quarter, coming away with the come-from-behind win to steal the series’ homecourt advantage.

Boston will host Game 2 on Thursday, May 8, before the battle shifts to New Yrok for Games 3 and 4.

Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby powered the Knicks by scoring 29 points. Karl-Anthony Towns added 14 points and 13 rebounds for New York, which went 0-4 against Boston in the regular season.

New York’s huge comeback was made possible by a 20-9 run in the third period that allowed them to move within 84-75.

The Knicks outscored the Celtics in the fourth, 25-16, to force overtime.

New York started the extension period with an 8-2 blast to build a 108-102 lead. A three-pointer by Jaylen Brown made it 105-108 with 1:16 left. The two squads didn’t score from that point on, perserving the Knicks’ crucial victory.

Jayson Tatum and Brown fired 23 points each for the Celtics, who recorded an NBA playoff-record 45 missed three-point attempts.

Boston was 15-of-60 from rainbow territory while New York went 17-for-37.(CCM)
