THE Indiana Pacers could face severe manpower issues when they battle for survival against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Friday (Philippine time), June 20.
Facing elimination, the Pacers could play without top point guard Tyrese Haliburton, who was slowed down by calf issues in their 109-120 loss in Game 5.
Haliburton scored just five points in the loss as the Thunder took a 3-2 series lead and moved a win away from winning their first NBA title.
Haliburton temporarily left in the first quarter when he fell hard to the floor after going for a layup. Sprawled on the floor, Haliburton grabbed his foot before heading to the locker room.
The team initially announced that it was a case of calf tightness. Haliburton eventually returned and was able to play for 34 minuites but was clearly not in his usual self.
In multiple reports, Indiana head coach Rick Carlisle disclosed that his prized ward will be listed as “questionable” and will be a game-time decision for Game 6.
Playing without Haliburton in the do-or-die match would be a big blow for the Pacers.
Haliburton is averaging 17.9 points and 9.1 assists in the playoffs. He starred in the team’s 111-110 cardiac win by sinking a long jumper with 0.3 seconds left.
In Indiana’s other win in the series, Haliburton was brilliant, tallying a team-high 22 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds, two steals, and a block in a 116-107 victory in Game 3.(CCM)
