THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is set to lead a proposed multi-agency task force aimed at combating online threats, including fake news, troll farms, illegal online gambling, and online scams.
In recent years, the Philippines has seen a significant increase in online threats, including fake news, troll farms, and online scams.
According to data from the country's National Privacy Commission, there were over 4,000 reported cases of cybercrime in 2022 alone. These threats have not only affected individuals but also posed a risk to national security and stability.
In a report by Philstar, DICT Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda said the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) will be at the forefront of this initiative.
The joint task force is an expansion of the Threat Monitoring Center established in collaboration with tech giant Meta during the midterm elections.
“Secretary Aguda plans to make it full-time and not only for election purposes,” Paraiso said.(Sheila Mae Allego, CTU-TC Intern)
