Mortapaint stays unbeaten in Mortabond hoops
MORTAPAINT bucked a shorthanded lineup to edge out Mortaflow, 81-80, in the 3rd Mortabond Cup of the Cebu Architects Basketball Club (CABC) over the weekend at the Game Changer in Mandaue City.
Mortapaint showed up with only eight players but the depleted roster hardly mattered as John Therese Buhawe took matters into his own hands in the battle of unbeaten teams.
Buhawe erupted for 44 points–a big-time offensive explosion that he laced with eight rebounds, four steals, and two assists, to help Mortapaint sustain its unbeaten start for a spotless 3-0 (win-loss) record.
Mortaflow stumbled after starting the tournament with back-to-back wins.
Ray Arnold Cuizon and Joseph Layar provided Buhawe the much-needed support with the former tallying 16 points and 13 rebounds and the latter finishing with 10 points.
Anthony Bajenting topped Mortaflow with 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Also winning was Mortaseal Flexi, which leaned on Chester Hinagdanan to beat Mortaplug, 106-89.
Hinagdanan piled up 35 points, five assists, and four boards as Mortaseal finally barged into the win column after suffering three debacles to start the tournament.
It was actually a balanced attack for Mortaseal as Criz Matunog added 15 points, Michael Judilla tallied 14, Ryan Rizarri pitched in 13, and Charles Dave Villasencio contributed 12.
Joseph Cabigas netted 27 points to lead Mortaplug, which stayed winless after three matches.
In another match, Mortashield prevailed over Duraplas Lite, 79-71, with Al Mark Marquita and Reddick Palmitos firing 10 points each.
Manuel Niere led Duraplas Lite with 24 points.(CCM)
