LITE turned in a heavyweight performance, grinding out a gritty 65-63 win over Brute to snatch the championship crown of the Cebu Architects Basketball Club (CABC) 1st Mortabond Cup last Sunday, October 13, at the Benedicto College Gym in Cebu City.

Lite started the title match poorly, finding itself down by as many as 16 points before coming alive in the endgame to steal the championship trophy.

Brute looked headed to scoring an easy win, building a 42-26 lead late in the second quarter as Lite struggled to find its rhythm.

Lite, however, came up with a renewed vigor in the final half and capped its sterling comeback with a dizzying run in the final period where it outscored Brute, 37-20.

John Buhawe whipped up a storm in the all-important match, leading Lite with 28 points, eight rebounds, one assist and two steals.

Miggy Appari backed Buhawe with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Zach Go led Brute with 14 markers. Dexsel Caadan added 13 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks, while Carlos Baltar and Miguel Cenabre contributed a combined 23 points in the loss.

Mortaseal, on the other hand, bagged the consolation trophy, beating Strakgout, 88-76, in the battle for third place behind Lemuel Aspacioโ€™s 25-point, five-rebound, two-assist performance.

Ferdinand Tiro pitched in 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while Chester Hinagdanan tossed in 14 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

Justin Aspacio also scored in double figures for Mortaseal with 14 points.(CCM)
